Foreign spouses of American GIs Become Strangers in a Strange Land
Every thousands of soldiers arrive at nearby Fort Sill with foreign women they’ve married while stationed in West Germany, South Korea and other overseas Army posts year.
These women are bewildered and amused by a strange language and what they view as peculiar customs, ways of thinking and taste like Alice traveling thorough the looking glass. They attempt to hold with their heritages and identities, and based on one Korean spouse, “to help keep self-esteem like they have been no body. since they feel”
Oriental females appear to feel the best tradition surprise. Those interviewed told tales of some ladies through the asia being afraid to leave their Lawton domiciles simply because they did not understand anybody, could not drive, did not realize the economy and knew just sufficient English to communicate due to their husbands.
Sue Rice, medical social worker during the Transcultural Family Counseling Center in Oklahoma City, stated the Lawton area gets the number that is largest of Korean immigrants within the state, about 4,000, most pertaining to soldiers.
